kiskisohcikew (s/he makes things to make people remember), is a performance that uses beading as a mnemonic device for language learning. I will be performed this piece during Hold Fast in St.John’s, Newfoundland, and Third Shift in Saint John, New Brunswick. Throughout the duration of the event I performed a loomed beading while repeating Cree words and phrases from Bluetooth speakers. This performance sought to reclaim language and perform an act of resistance through making and repetition. The loomed beadings that remain after the performance are records of the time spent reclaiming language that was lost to me and my family members.
