junipers lined my grandmothers walkway, 2023

junipers lined my grandmothers walkway is a series of three junipers intricately beaded using miyuki beads on linen. These works look to my family history, memories of my grandmother's garden, and the practice of beadwork to think through and build connections through the slow gestural movement of tacking a stitch. I bead to connect with my ancestors and my maternal family, as well as honour my relations in the plant and animal world. These works also draw upon the western European tradition of botanical collection, a practice that historically coincides with colonization of menistik (the nêhiýaw word for the Americas).
